BEDA

BEDA, short for Blog Every Day (in) April, is a project started by Maureen Johnson, a fantastic YA novelist. The link goes to her blog post about the nature/origins of BEDA, if you're interested.

Let's face it, this site needs some love and attention. Sometimes I ignore it (and especially the blog) because it just doesn't get traffic, but this is a stupid idea. The saying isn't "wait for them to come, and then build it", but "build it, and they will come" for good reason. Nobody will ever read this blog, nobody will ever use Project Loop, unless I continue to contribute to it. So I have decided to join the madness that is BEDA.

"But it's April 2nd," you say, "and you didn't blog yesterday!"

Ableton vs. Sonar

I made this post for the forums over at filmandgamecomposer.com (which, by the way, is a great resource for composers of any type), but thought I'd post it here as well in case any of my lovely readers have tried using either or both of these programs and could give me some insight. Every comment is appreciated!

Thanks,
Candy

I'm trying to choose a DAW and wondered if you lovely people could help me based on your experience using Sonar and/or Ableton. (I have already looked at some others, such as Cubase and Reason, and ruled them out for various reasons, this is my final pairing.)

New MySpace Pages

Just thought I'd let you all know that I now have a couple of MySpace pages - one for my classical music, and one for my new musical project called "Pomme de Terre", which is more on the pop end. Right now the only track up for Pomme de Terre is very folky, but there promises to be a lot of variation :) I just need to get some stuff recorded.

So, if you like MySpace or just have one, please add me! I like having internet friends:

Houskeeping

This site has been in serious neglect.

In the next couple months (my real goal is a month, but y'all know I'm lazy), I will update the workings on project loop, revamp the lessons sections, and add some blogs that I've been meaning to write.

So, I hope this place becomes better worth a regular visit soon :) If you have any suggestions please let me know!

(I have already been asked to provide timings for all of the Project Loop tracks - and don't worry I'll do that)

In the meantime, I've found another great resource for composers - filmandgamecomposers.com. It's definitely worth checking out, and despite the url has good information for all types of composers!

Cheers,
Candy

Favorite Music

I love the Borodin string quartet.

I mean, LOVE. Love love love love love love love.

I play in a quartet that rehearses every Wednesday night, and we dedicate roughly half of our time to reading. Tonight our reading included the first movement of Borodin's string quartet. THE quartet, the famous one. (In fact, if he wrote more than one, I don't know anything about the others. It's the one that was adapted to become a musical called Kismet.) When Nick and I got married, the first movement was our processional and the 2nd movement was our recessional. That's how much I love this piece, and how much I have loved it for years and years.
