not about music

Today I just want to share with you a story.

A story about siblings.

At my in-laws' house they hide plastic eggs in the yard containing coins and small candies every year. They have a good chunk of land that's basically "in the country" and a lot of animals.

Naturally Nick and his brothers tried to distract each other by hiding prank eggs and hoping that those prank eggs will garner enough attention to allow them to find more of the real ones. Or perhaps they just enjoy the satisfaction of tricking each other.

I ended up finding one egg that was simply empty and very disappointing, but the real kicker was when Alexander put a piece of old poop from the yard into an egg and slid it into Nick's basket.

Happy Easter!

Comments

I am really loving Kyle's comments on this blog. And so even though it's linked to your left in the sidebar I'd like to give him another shoutout and let y'all know that Kyle Gullings is also doing BEDA at http://gullings.blogspot.com. Go! Read! Now!

Well, of course I didn't finish everything, but I got most of it done, and it will be done on Monday. It'll all come out. And we had a good rehearsal today, which made me happy.

Nick (my husband) and I are going to spend the night at his parents' house and have Easter brunch tomorrow, so I only have a few minutes to get this out before we need to leave. I hope you all have a happy Easter, had a good Seder, or are enjoying all the discounted candy on Monday. Mmmmmm chocolate bunnies.....

Crunch Time

By 3pm tomorrow all of the music for "Come to Dada" needs to be done, but I really only have about 9 hours left to work in, assuming I don't sleep tonight.

Ah, time management skills.... why don't we ever seem to get along? :)

Did I mention I have over 20 minutes of show left to score?

Good Evening

because it is. It is evening, and I suppose it is good enough :)

In a few days I will be able to write in the mornings, and thus make more thoughtful posts. In the evening I always feel the pressure to get it over with, so they've been rather terse.

okay okay I'm blogging

I have, like five minutes.

What can you do that's interesting in five minutes?

Well, listen to a few of my pieces. A lot of them are SHORT.

They are getting longer, though, as of late, which is good. I still like writing short pieces, but if I'm going to write an opera someday I need to be able to write individual movements that are at least 10 minutes long. I'm getting there. Several of my recent works are over 4 minutes. Wahoo!

How long is your attention span for a piece of music? Do you think short is better? Do you think long is better? What are the pros and cons of each?

Things at Bedlam went well tonight, people climbed all over the set, which is practically a jungle gym, and hung from the ceiling. It was AWESOME.
